STANFORD, Calif. - On a rainy day during round one of the Stanford Intercollegiate, the Bruins shot a 3-over 287 on Friday to sit in second and two shots back of first-place Northwestern at the Stanford Golf Course.
Sophomore Bethany Wu overcame an early double bogey on the second hole to shoot a 2-under 69. She parred her next four holes following her double and then made back-to-back birdies on #7 and #8. Another birdie on the 11th got Wu into red numbers for the round, finishing up with a fourth birdie on #17 to get into the clubhouse in a tie for second and two shots back of the individual leader (Georgia Lacey, San Diego State).
Senior Bronte Law is tied for fourth after a 1-under 70. She birdied her opening hole, as well as #7 and #15, to go with bogeys on the fifth and the 18th. Sophomore Lilia Vu, celebrating her 19th birthday on Friday, opened her round with an eagle on the first, but quickly fell back to even with bogeys on #2 and #4. Vu closed the front nine with a birdie on the ninth, also gaining a stroke on #15, but made bogeys on #10, #17 and #18 to finish at 1-over 72 and in a tie for 11th. Freshman Mariel Galdiano is tied for 50th at 5-over after shooting a 76. She made three birdies on #4, #7 and #9 to go with six bogeys and a double. Freshman Clare Legaspi shot a non-team scoring 78 (+7) and is tied for 62nd. Her lone birdie came on #16 along with eight bogeys.
The Bruins tee off starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the order of Legaspi, Galdiano, Vu, Law and Wu. Live scoring for round two will be available here.
