ORLANDO, Fla. - Lilia Vu opened her sophomore campaign by firing her best collegiate round, a 6-under 66, to help the Bruins to a third-place tie after 18 holes of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M at the Reunion Resort's Watson Course.
As a team, the Bruins shot a 9-under 279. Round one results and round two scoring links are available here.
Vu, who is tied for second and two shots back of individual leader Katelyn Dambaugh (-8), made seven birdies in her opening round. Starting on the 10th hole, she birdied #11 and #16 before making three in a row to start the front nine. Vu added another birdie on the fifth before her first and only bogey on the sixth. The sophomore finished her round with a birdie on the eighth to post her 66.
Freshman Mariel Galdiano opened her collegiate career with a 2-under 70 to tie her for 14th. She made four birdies on the 14th, second, sixth and ninth to go with two bogeys on #18 and #7. Sophomore Bethany Wu is tied for 22nd after a 1-under 71. She had two bogeys on her opening nine on the 10th and 17th, but rebounded with three birdies on her second nine on holes #3, #7 and #8.
Senior Bronte Law is tied for 28th following an even-par 72. She had two birdies on the 14th and ninth and two bogeys on the 12th and eighth. Freshman Clare Legaspi shot a non-team scoring 5-over 77 and is tied for 56th. She was 3-under after birdies on #14, #15 and #1 before making three bogeys, a double and a triple bogey in her last six holes.
