EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Patty Tavatanakit posted a second-place finish at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at the Olympic Hills Golf Club, while the Bruins, as a team, also finished in second.
UCLA posted a 3-under round of 285 on Tuesday to finish at 4-under 860 for the three-day event. Arkansas won the team title at -16 (848).
Tavatanakit produced her third under-par round in a row with a 1-under 71 to finish at 5-under (211), five shots back of medalist Maria Fassi of Arkansas. On Tuesday, the freshman made a pair of birdies on #3 and #14 and just one bogey to go with 15 pars.
Junior Beth Wu and sophomores Mariel Galdiano and Clare Legaspi also finished inside the Top 20. Galdiano posted a 3-under 69 to place T-11 at -1 (215). She made five birdies on #2, #6, #9, #14 and #16 to go with two bogeys. Wu and Legaspi each tied for 16th (+1, 217). Wu was 1-under (71) for the second day in a row, making four birdies on #2, #5, #6 and #14 and three bogeys. Legaspi recorded a 2-over 74 on birdies at #8, #14 and #16 and five bogeys. Senior Joo Seo finished 59th (+25, 241), making a birdie on #12, five bogeys and three doubles in a final-round 82 (+10).
The Bruins are back in action Oct. 16-18 at the Stanford Intercollegiate at the Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.
