No. 25 Bruins Fall in Three at No. 24 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - Senior Zana Munoย recorded 18 digs and sophomore Jenny Mosser posted 11 kills and seven digs, but the 25th-rankedย Bruins dropped a three-set decision to No. 24 Arizona on Sunday at the McKaleย Center. Set scores were 13-25, 22-25, 15-25.
Freshman Devon Chang had 29 assists and seven digs, as the Bruins registered a .206 hitting percentage. Sophomore Mac May tallied eight kills, senior Kyra Rogers and redshirtย freshman Emily Ryan each notched five kills and junior Savvy Simoย had 12 digs.
The Bruins (13-12, 8-10 Pac-12) scored three of the first four points of the match on kills by Rogers and junior Madeleine Gates and an Arizona attack error. However, Arizona (20-10, 9-9 Pac-12) scored the next five and led for the rest of the set. The closest the Bruins would be the rest of the way was two, as Arizona won the opener by a score of 25-13. Mosser recorded four kills, Muno had seven digs and Simo posted six digs. The Bruins were out-hit, .389 to .118.
In set two, the Bruins were up by two on a few occasions, scoring five of the first eight points on kills by Ryan and Chang and three Arizona errors. The Wildcats grabbed their first lead at 6-5, and despite a couple of ties and a valiant comeback by the Bruins, Arizona didn't trail for the rest of the set. Trailing 20-12, the Bruins scored seven in a row and 10 of 12 to even things at 22. The first four points came on May kills, and after an Arizona error, kills by May and Ryan made it 20-19. Trailing 22-20, a Wildcat attack error and a Ryan kill evened the score at 22. However, Arizona got the next three points to win the set. May was error-free with seven kills in 16 attempts, while Ryan was a perfect 4-for-4. Muno had eight digs, with Chang and Mosser providing four each. The Bruins hit .385 in the set with 16 kills and just one error in 39 attempts, with the Wildcats hitting .245.
The only tie in set three was at 1-all, as Arizona never trailed in winning the third set by a score of 25-15. Mosser produced six kills in the third, as the Bruins were out-hit, .375 to .088.
The Bruins return home to face Colorado on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Pauleyย Pavilion presented by Wescom. The match will be televised on Pac-12 Networks and will also feature a free live audio broadcast on UCLABruins.com.
