SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - For the second year in a row, junior Lilia Vu won the Bruin Wave Invitational, picking up her third straight victory and seventh of her UCLA career to tie Bronte Law for the most tournament wins in school history.
As a team, the Bruins finished second (+40, 904) after a final-round 301 (+13) on Tuesday.
Vu was the only player under par for the tournament, winning by two strokes. She finished at 1-under 215, posting a 3-over 75 on Tuesday. Vu made three birdies on the back nine at #11, #13 and #14, rebounding from four bogeys and a double on the front nine to defeat Stanford's Albane Valenzuela (+1). Bruin golfers have won the Bruin Wave four years in a row (Louise Ridderstrom, 2016; Erynne Lee, 2015).
Sophomore Mariel Galdiano tied for fourth (+8, 224), shooting a 5-over 77 in her final round. She made three birdies on #7, #11 and #18, four bogeys and two doubles. Junior Beth Wu saved her best round for last, producing a 1-over 73 on three birdies (#5, #11 and #17) and four bogeys to tie for 25th (+16, 232). Senior Erin Choi tied for 36th (+19, 235) with a final-round 76 (+4). She made three birdies on #9, #10 and #17 to go with seven bogeys. Freshman Vera Markevich, playing as an individual, tied for 60th (+27, 243), shooting a final-round 79 (+7) on one birdie on the 10th, four bogeys and two doubles. Senior Joo Seo tied for 64th (+28, 244), notching an 81 (+9) on two birdies on the eighth and 11th and 11 bogeys.
The Bruins' next tournament takes them to Tucson, Ariz. and the Sewailo Golf Club for the Wildcat Invitational (March 5-6).
