LOS ANGELES -ย The top four hitters in the UCLA lineup combined for six of the team's seven hits, including two apiece for junior Brianna Tautalafua and redshirt freshman Aaliyah Jordan, who also drove in three, as the fourth-ranked Bruins claimed a 5-3 victory on Sunday night over #24 Oregon State at Easton Stadium.
UCLA improved to 27-2 overall and 3-2 in Pac-12 play, while Oregon State fell to 19-12 and 2-3 in league.
Freshman Holly Azevedo picked up the win in the circle to improve to 8-0, striking out three in 6 1/3 innings and giving up three runs, three hits and five walks. Senior Selina Ta'amilo earned her first save of the season, striking out one and giving up two walks in 2/3 of an inning.
Oregon State scored the game's first run in the top of the first on an RBI single by McKenna Arriola, but the Bruins matched that run in the bottom of the first, as Jordan drew a two-out walk and scored on a Tautalafua single and Beaver error in right field.
In the third, the Bruins again rallied with two outs, as freshman Briana Perez doubled to right with one out and scored on a single up the middle by Jordan, who moved up a base on the throw home and scored when Tautalafua reached on an error to make it 3-1.
UCLA extended its lead with two more in the fifth. Freshman Kinsley Washington singled to left to open the frame, moved to second one out later on a single to center by senior Kylee Perez and both players scored on a double to left-center by Jordan to make it 5-1.
Oregon State would score single runs on bases-loaded walks in the sixth to Chance Burden and in the seventh to Michelle Sass, and had the bases loaded in its final at-bat, but Jordan made a running catch in foul ground, crashing into the left-field fence to record the last out of the game.
The Bruins look for the sweep against the Beavers on Monday at 1 p.m. at Easton Stadium. Free live audio and live stats will be available at UCLABruins.com.
