NAPA, Calif. - The top-ranked Bruins are just two shots out of the lead after 18 holes at the Silverado Showdown, shooting a 4-over 292 as a team on Sunday at the Silverado Country Club. UCLA trails USC (+2, 290) and is even with Arizona (+4, 292) following round one.
Freshman Patty Tavatanakit was the low Bruin of the day with a 1-under 71 and is tied for fifth. She made five birdies on #4, #5, #11, #13 and #16 and four bogeys.
Juniors Lilia Vu and Beth Wu are both tied for 12th following 1-over 73s. Wu made a trio of birdies on #11, #16 and #18 to go with four bogeys, while Vu had birdies on #9 and #13, a bogey and a double. Sophomore Mariel Galdiano is tied for 32nd (+3, 75), posting three birdies on #3, #13 and #18, four bogeys and a double. Senior Erin Choi notched a 5-over 77 and is tied for 51st after making five bogeys in her opening round.
Round two will begin for the Bruins at 9:15 a.m. off the first tee in the order of Choi, Galdiano, Wu, Vu and Tavatanakit. Live scoring will be available here.
