Penultimate Regular-Season Tournament Takes No. 5 UCLA to Phoenix

PHOENIX - The fifth-ranked Bruins return to the course this weekend for the PING/ASU Invitational at the Papago Golf Course. The 54-hole tournament will be played Friday through Sunday at the par-72, 6,430-yard layout.
The starting five for the Bruins will be senior Beth Wu, junior Clare Legaspi, sophomores Vera Markevich and Patty Tavatanakit and freshman Phoebe Yue. Junior Mariel Galdiano will miss the tournament as she plays in the LPGA Kia Classic. Friday and Saturday tee times will begin at 8 a.m. off both tees, while Sunday's final round will start at 7:30 a.m.
Joining the Bruins and host and No. 16 Arizona State in the 15-team field are No. 1 USC, No. 4 Stanford, No. 10 Arizona, No. 17 Northwestern, No. 21 Oklahoma, No. 23 Oregon, No. 24 Furman, No. 31 Washington, No. 34 Georgia, Colorado, Denver, New Mexico and Oklahoma State.
The Bruins are coming off a T-8 finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate (March 8-10). This spring, they also placed second at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge (Feb. 3-5) and fourth at the Bruin Wave Invitational (Feb. 25-26). UCLA has a win at the Golfweek Conference Challenge (Sept. 24-26) and another second-place finish at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M (Sept. 17-19).
In five tournaments this season, Tavatanakit has three Top 10s, winning the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (-13, 203), finishing second at the Golfweek Challenge (-11, 205) and tying for fourth at the Northrop Grumman (+3, 216). Of her 15 rounds, six have been under par, including four in the 60s. She tied a school record with a 9-under 63 in the final round of the ANNIKA.
Legaspi has two Top 10s and four Top 20s, tying for fourth at the Northrop Grumman (+3, 216). She also tied for seventh at the Golfweek Challenge (-3, 213), tied for 18th at the Bruin Wave (+12, 228) and tied for 20th at the Stanford Intercollegiate (Oct. 19-21, +2, 215). Legaspi has three under-par rounds and a pair in the 60s, including a 4-under 68 to open the Golfweek Challenge.
Wu also has four Top 20s, posting a season-best, T-10 finish at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview (Nov. 5-7, -1, 218). She tied for 15th at the ANNIKA (-3, 213), tied for 16th at the NGRC (+7, 220) and tied for 18th at the Bruin Wave (+12, 228). Wu has five under-par rounds, with a season-low, 3-under 68 in round two at Stanford.
Yue had a career-best finish at the Bruin Wave, as she tied for third (+8, 224). In her other four tournaments, the freshman was 54th at Nanea (+17, 236), tied for 79th at the NGRC (+28, 241), 82nd at the Darius Rucker (+24, 237) and tied for 84th at Stanford (+25, 238).
Markevich will be playing in her fifth tournament. She tied for 56th at the Nanea (+20, 239), was 66th at the Bruin Wave (+25, 241), tied for 80th at Stanford (+23, 236) and 83rd at the NGRC (Feb. 3-5).
