Brady, Faraimo Make History in Double-Header Sweep of San Diego

LOS ANGELES โ Megan Faraimoย tossed theย sixth no-hitter of her career in No. 2 UCLA softball's 14-0 mercy-rule win over San Diego to begin the final day of the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament at Easton Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Faraimo's performance comes on the heels of freshman Taylor Tinsley's no-hitter in her collegiate debut in the Bruins' (6-0) previous game versus CSU Bakersfield.

Maya Brady homered twice in UCLA's game one victory and hit a walk-off homer in game two to defeat the Toreros (0-5), 5-2. Game one marked the third multi-home run performance of Brady's career.

Including her four hits from game one, six hits from Saturday and 1-for-1 performance versus CSU Bakersfield on Friday, Brady recorded 11 consecutive base hits, breaking a UCLA record formerly held by Stacey Nuveman (Feb. 1999) and Lisa Fernandez (March 1993).

Brady has opened the 2023 season with an .813 average (13-for-16) and 1.563 slugging percentage with 13 RBI, four home runs and 13 runs scored.

Faraimo struck out eight batters in her no-hit effort which marked the 116th in program history. The Bruins last threw no-hitters in back-to-back games in 2022. Faraimo and Lauren Shaw combined for a perfect game versus Pennsylvania on March 10 and Faraimo struck out 15 consecutive Roadrunners in her perfecto against CSU Bakersfield on March 11.

The Bruins totaled 17 hits for their most in a game since the 2022 season opener versus CSUN when they posted 19. In addition to Brady's standout performance, freshman Ramsey Suarez picked up the first home run of her career in the third inning.

Jordan Woolery continued the hot start to her career with a pair of RBI base hits, including a 2-RBI double in the second. She leads UCLA with three doubles through the first six games.
San Diego put together a two-run first inning thanks to two hits and a fielding error by left-handed pitcher Brooke Yanez.

Yanez settled in, retiring the next nine batters she faced before the Toreros threated with runners on third and second. Lauren Shaw entered in relief and froze Taylor Johnson with a strikeout looking to get the Bruins out of the jam.

After stranding the bases loaded in the third, UCLA put its first run on the board in the fourth inning with a solo homer by redshirt junior Sharlize Palacios for her second longball in as many days. Freshman Megan Grant hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Lauryn Carter the next inning to tie the game, 2-2.

Kelli Godin led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and was moved into scoring position with a bunt by Savannah Pola. On the first pitch she saw, Maya Brady unloaded on a line drive shot to right field for the first walk-off home run of her career.
