SEATTLE โ The No. 14 UCLA softball team dropped game two of its three-game series with No. 8 Washington in a 6-4 decision at Husky Softball Stadium Saturday afternoon.
ย
Shortstop Maya Brady recorded her second 2-for-4 performance of the series. Left fielder Jadelyn Allchin and second baseman Seneca Curo also tallied multiple hits.
ย
For the second day in a row, the Bruins (17-8, 3-2 Pac-12) rallied in the seventh inning and put the game-tying run in scoring position. Allchin and Brady led off the inning with back-to-back singles to knock Huskies' (22-4, 6-2 Pac-12) reliever Sidne Peters out of the game.
ย
Washington reliever Ruby Meylan issued four walks to the seven batters she faced in the seventh. Meylan walked the first batter she faced to load the bases. A wild pitch during Megan Grant's at-bat allowed Allchin to score from third base. Later in the at-bat, Grant lined out to Meylan for the first out of the inning. Meylan struck out the next batter, Jordan Woolery, to bring Washington within one out of the victory.
ย
Bases loaded walks to the next three Bruins โ Taylor Stephens, Seneca Curo and Thessa Malau'ulu โ brought home two runs to cut the Huskies' lead to two, 6-4, and push the game-tying run to second base. Washington third baseman Kinsey Fiedler fielded a chopper off the bat of Janelle Meoño and tagged her bag for the final out.
ย
Lindsay Lopez earned the win for the Huskies after allowing just one run on eight hits over 5.1 innings.
ย
Again, Washington jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Right fielder Alana Johnson's second home run of the series capped a three-run first. The Huskies added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth on a single into center field by catcher Sydney Stewart. Stewart's single easily scored Fiedler from third base. Malau'ulu attempted to throw out Stewart advancing to second base on the throw from the outfield. Malau'ulu's throw went wide past Curo and sailed into right field, allowing another run to score on the play.
ย
Taylor Stephens put the Bruins on the board in the top of the sixth inning with a pinch-hit RBI double.
ย
UCLA looks to salvage the series with Washington tomorrow at noon at Husky Softball Stadium.
