Senior Mohini Bhardwaj (Cincinnati, OH/Alexander Smith Academy) of the UCLA Women's Gymnastics Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 15-21.
Bhardwaj recorded the nation's highest all-around score of the season, 39.725, to lead UCLA to a 197.5-195.7 victory over 10-time national champion Utah Jan. 21, UCLA's first-ever win over the Utes in the regular season. Bhardwaj also received her second perfect 10 of the season on the floor exercise to claim first-place honors on that event and tied for first on beam with a career-high tying 9.925. In addition, she earned Top 3 finishes on vault (third-place, 9.875) and bars (second-place, 9.925).
Bhardwaj's marks in the all-around and floor tied Pauley Pavilion records, and her scores helped UCLA achieve its fifth-highest team total ever.
At Stanford Jan. 19, Bhardwaj placed second on vault with a 9.9 and helped UCLA defeat the Cardinal, 196.925-194.675.
Bhardwaj now averages 10.0 on the floor exercise and ranks No. 1 nationally in the all-around and floor, as well as third on beam and bars and eighth on vault.
This is Bhardwaj's first student-athlete of the week honor this season and the second for a UCLA gymnast this year. She was a two-time winner last season.
