SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - After 36 holes at the Bruin Wave Invitational, junior Lilia Vu, winner of two tournaments in a row, is the only player under par, holding a five-shot lead at the San Luis Obispo Country Club following Monday's play. Vu is at 4-under (140), leading by a handful over Stanford's Albane Valenzuela (+1, 145).
The top-ranked Bruins, winners of four in a row, are in second place (+27, 603) following rounds of 306 (+18) and 297 (+9). UCLA is five strokes behind USC (+22, 598). Live scoring for Tuesday's final round will be available here.
Vu shot a 3-under 69 in the morning to hold a three-stroke lead after 18 holes. She made birdies on #1, #5, #10, #11 and #17, making two bogeys. As the rain started to fall in round two, the junior remained steady, shooting a 1-under 71 on four birdies (#7, #10, #13, #15) and three bogeys.
Sophomore Mariel Galdiano is tied for third (+3, 147), coming back from a 5-over 77 in the morning to shoot a 2-under 70 in rainy conditions in the afternoon. In round one, Galdiano made one birdie on #11, four bogeys and a double. She came back with four birdies in the afternoon on #3, #5, #11 and #1 to go with two bogeys.
Senior Erin Choi and junior Beth Wu are both tied for 45th (+15, 159) after 36 holes. After posting an 83 (+11) in round one on a birdie (#10), seven bogeys, one double and one triple, Choi improved seven strokes in the afternoon with a 4-over 76. She made one birdie on #12 to go with five bogeys. Wu made two birdies in her opening-round 79 (+7) on #9 and #10, one double, four bogeys and a triple. In round two, she had four bogeys and two doubles in an 8-over 80. Senior Joo Seo is tied for 60th (+19, 163), recording a 9-over 81 (seven bogeys, one double) in round one and a 10-over 82 (six bogeys, two doubles) in round two. Freshman Vera Markevich, playing as an individual, is tied for 66th (+20, 164). She made a birdie (#15), seven bogeys, two doubles and a triple in an opening-round 85 (+13) and seven bogeys in a second-round 79 (+7).
The final round for the Bruins begins at 9:25 a.m. off the first tee in the order of Seo, Choi, Wu, Galdiano and Vu. Markevich will begin on the 10th at 9:40 a.m.
