Betts Named UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week

January 22, 2025 | Women's Basketball, Bruin Athletics

LOS ANGELES – Junior Lauren Betts of UCLA Women's Basketball has been selected the Student-Athlete of the Week for competitions held between Jan. 14-20.

Junior Lauren Betts tied then set the single-game blocks record for UCLA Women's Basketball in the Bruins' 2-0 week. Betts collected her tenth double-double of the season against Penn State (W, 83-67) at the Walter Pyramid on Jan. 15, scoring 22 points and corralling 12 rebounds to go with her record-tying seven blocks. Eight of her 12 boards came on the offensive end against the Lady Lions in Long Beach. The center followed her dominant conference performance with 24 points, nine rebounds, and a program record nine blocks in No. 1 UCLA's 72-57 win over No. 25 Baylor at the inaugural Coretta Scott King Classic.  Betts becomes the second Bruin to record two games with 7+ blocks in a single season; she's the first to achieve the mark in back-to-back games. The top-ranked Bruins earned their fourth ranked win of the season in defeating the Baylor Bears on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

The Bruins have been ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 for nine-consecutive weeks, which sets the Big Ten record for a conference team's streak atop the AP women's basketball poll.

Betts secures her eighth-career UCLA student-athlete of the week award, tying Noelle Quinn for the most all-time weekly awards earned by a women's basketball Bruin.
