Men’s 4x400m Relay Named UCLA Student-Athletes of Week, presented by Ready

LOS ANGELES – UCLA track and field's men's 4x400m relay has been selected the UCLA Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Ready, for June 5-11.
The relay team of Antonie Nortje, Willington Wright, Myles Misener-Daley and Cameron Reynolds finished in third place at the 2023 NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, running a 2:59.82 in the race to blaze their way to third place and All-America First Team honors with the result. The quartet is the first group of bruins to earn First Team All-American since Harrison Schrage, the Bruin long jumper who placed sixth in the 2021 national meet (7.83m, 25-08.25).
The semifinal round in a field of five sub-three-minute relays, showcasing an extremely fast field of competition. The Bruins were the fourth-fastest team entering the finals after running a 2:59.51 to qualify through the semifinals. The winner of the event, Florida, combined for a time of 2:57.74 in the finals, which set the new collegiate record for the men's 4x400m relay. Arizona State, the Pac-12 champion in the event, placed second at the NCAA meet in Austin, Texas.
The Bruins have won the 4x400m relay individual event national championship three times in program history, the last coming when the 1999 UCLA men's 4x400m relay placed first by running a 3:02.12. The most recent Bruin 4x400m relay team to make the finals in the event was in 2004 when UCLA finished seventh at the national championships. (3:06.63).
This is the second UCLA student-athlete of the week award of the season and of their career for Nortje, Wright and Reynolds. The honor marks the first time Myles Misener-Daley has earned the award this season and in his career.
