Betts Named UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week
February 26, 2025 | Women's Basketball, Bruin Athletics
LOS ANGELES – Junior Lauren Betts of UCLA Women's Basketball has been selected the Student-Athlete of the Week for competitions held between Feb. 18-24.
The Bruin center averaged 22.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game in No. 3 UCLA's 2-0 week. The center had 22 points, seven rebounds and six blocks against No. 25 Illinois on Feb. 20 in the Bruins' eighth ranked win of the season. Betts brought her season blocks total to 67 against the Fighting Illini, surpassing Monique Billings for UCLA Women's Basketball's single-season blocks record in the victory. She followed that performance with a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double in front of a hostile Iowa crowd on the road. Betts shot 9-of-12 from the field was the game's leading scorer in UCLA's 67-65 win against the Hawkeyes, helping the Bruins overcome a 12-point second-half deficit in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Betts secures her ninth-career UCLA student-athlete of the week award. Only Jaime Jaquez, Jr., and Kyla Ross have more all-time weekly awards with 10 each.
