Betts Named UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week

March 12, 2025 | Women's Basketball, Bruin Athletics

LOS ANGELES – Junior Lauren Betts of UCLA Women's Basketball has been selected the Student-Athlete of the Week for competitions held between March 4-10.

Betts was named the Big Ten Most Outstanding Player and headlined the All-Tournament Team after leading UCLA to a 3-0 weekend and its first conference tournament championship since 2006. The Bruin center started the tournament with a 28-point (11-15 FG), 13-rebound double-double against Nebraska in the quarterfinal; Betts amassed seven blocks and collected three steals in the opening-round win. She shot 75 percent from the floor (24-32 FG) and 90 percent from the free throw line (9-10 FT) in the tournament, and the center totaled 12 blocks and seven steals over the three games in Indianapolis. Betts finished the weekend with a 17-point outing against rival and No. 1-seed USC in the Big Ten Championship, 13 of which came in the second half to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit. The unanimous Big Ten defensive player of the year finished the championship win with four blocks and four steals against the Trojans as UCLA defeated USC 72-67.

The Bruin center secures her 10th-career UCLA student-athlete of the week award, tying Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kyla Ross as the all-time leader for the award.
