Betts Named UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week
April 02, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES โ Junior Lauren Betts of UCLA Women's Basketball has been selected the Student-Athlete of the Week for competitions held between March 25-31. She averaged 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game in UCLA's 2-0 weekend in Spokane, Wash., to help the Bruins advance to the Women's Final Four.
ย
UCLA last appeared in the national semifinal in 1979, the second-consecutive trip after the 1978 AIAW championship run.
ย
The Bruin center opened the Spokane 1 regional tournament with a 31-point, 10-rebound double-double to help lift UCLA past No. 5-seed Ole Miss in the Sweet 16. Betts shot 15-of-16 from the floor (.938 FG%) and recorded three blocks in the 76-62 victory. She became just the third player to record multiple 30-point, 10-rebound double-doubles in an NCAA tournament in the last 25 years, joining Elena Delle Donne and Brittney Griner. Betts is the only to do so shooting 80 percent or better from the field.
ย
Betts was named Most Outstanding Player for the regional tournament and was named All-Tournament Team alongside Gabriela Jaquez and Kiki Rice after UCLA's win over No. 3-seed LSU. The Centennial, Colo., native had 17 points and seven rebounds in the victory over the tigers; she had six blocks to bring her season total to 99. Her fourth-quarter assist to Jaquez was a much-needed late-game bucket; Jaquez and Timea Gardiner helped sparked the Bruin offense by shooting 9-for-13 from 3-point land in the Elite Eight win.
ย
The All-America honoree earns her 11th-career UCLA student-athlete of the week award, setting the all-time record for the weekly honor.
