  • Junior Mohini Bhardwaj (Cincinnati, OH/Alexander Smith Academy) and senior Lena Degteva (Mississauga, Ontario/Silverthorn HS) of the gymnastics team were selected the MET-Rx UCLA Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Apr. 10-16.

    Bhardwaj and Degteva were instrumental in UCLA?s NCAA Championship title and each won an individual event title.

    Bhardwaj tied for second in the all-around with a score of 39.575 during the team preliminaries and then helped UCLA win its second NCAA championship by scoring 39.625 in the all-around. The next day, Bhardwaj won her first individual title by winning the uneven bars with a mark of 9.95. She also placed second on the balance beam (9.9) and fifth on the vault (9.8065). Bhardwaj earned first-team All-America honors in the all-around, vault, bars and beam to extend her career All-America honors to nine.

    Degteva placed fifth in the all-around with a score of 39.5 during the team prelims and then duplicated that mark at the Super Six. Her 9.825 on beam clinched the title for UCLA. Degteva came back the next day to win her first individual title on the balance beam (9.913) and also placed third on bars (9.888). She earned first-team All-America honors on bars and beam and second-team honors in the all-around, vault and floor to extend her career All-America honors to a school-record 13.
