  • Freshman Sara Walker (El Paso, TX/Franklin HS) was selected the MET-Rx UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 24-30.

Walker turned in one of the most dominating performances ever at the Pac-10 Championships, downing No. 23 Allison Bradshaw of Arizona State 6-1, 6-1 Sunday to claim the Pac-10 Conference singles title. Walker recorded five straight-set victories on the week, making her the only player in the women's draw not to drop a set. En route to the championship, she defeated 13th-ranked Lauren Kalvaria of Stanford in the semifinals and No. 30 Karin Palme of Arizona State in the quarterfinals.

She is the first UCLA freshman ever to win the Pac-10 singles title at Ojai and the first Bruin to win the championship since teammate Annica Cooper won the title as a sophomore back in 1998.

With five wins on the week, Walker improves her record to 33-7, becoming the first Bruin to surpass the 30-win plateau this season.
