Johnson Named Student-Athlete of the Week, Presented by Ready

LOS ANGELES – Freshman Spencer Johnson of UCLA Men's Tennis has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for the week of Feb. 12-18.

Staring down a 4-5 score and three match points on the last court standing, Johnson climbed out of his third-set hole to defeat Pepperdine's Linus Carlsson Halldin and secure a thrilling 4-3 victory for UCLA at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center Sunday. The 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 result on Court 3 represented Johnson's fifth win in a row and extended the Bruins' winning streak to four. For good measure, Johnson and partner Emon van Loben Sels teamed to clinch the doubles point with their 6-3 triumph – the pair's fourth in as many dual-match decisions – over Carlsson Halldin and George Davis on Court 2. The freshman Johnson currently leads UCLA with a 14-4 singles record and 12-4 doubles mark going back to fall tournament play.
