    • Junior second baseman Chase Utley (Long Beach, CA/Long Beach Poly HS) of the baseball team was selected the MET-Rx UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of May 22-28.

    Utley was named the MVP and selected to the all-tournament team at the NCAA Oklahoma City Regional this past weekend, leading the Bruins to an undefeated record at the tournament and a berth in the NCAA Super-Regionals. Utley tied for third with Garrett Atkins for the highest batting average among the OKC Regional players with a .467 average (7-15). He also contributed four RBIs, two doubles, a triple and two home runs. He led all OKC Regional hitters in runs scored (7), home runs (2) and total bases (17).

    In UCLA?s 10-5 win over Oklahoma May 27, Utley hit an inside-the-park home run, the first for a Bruin this season. He now has 107 hits and is chasing Bill Scott (currently 111) for the UCLA single-season record.
