Palacios Named Student-Athlete of the Week, Presented by Ready
April 30, 2024 | Softball, Bruin Athletics
LOS ANGELES – Redshirt senior Sharlize Palacios of UCLA Softball has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for the week of April 22-28.
No. 9 UCLA's catcher homered in three of the Bruins four games this week and led the team with a .600 average (6-for-10) and 11 total RBI. All three of Palacios' homers either gave UCLA the lead or tied the game. None of Palacios' homers were bigger than her game-tying grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning in game three to cap a seven-run comeback versus rival Arizona. The Bruins went on to score 11 unanswered runs to win the game, 11-7. Palacios also hit a game-tying three-run homer in game two of the series. In her last five games against Arizona, Palacios has homer four times and recorded 15 RBI. Palacios went 2-for-2 with an RBI base hit and sacrifice fly in game one. In the Bruins' midweek game at Long Beach State, Palacios was called upon to pinch hit in the sixth inning and hit a go-ahead two-run homer.
Palacios secures her first-career UCLA student-athlete of the week award.
